Beijing, which was declared as the capital of China only 600 years ago, gained an enormous wealth of cultural and historical significance. The Great Wall, The Forbidden City, The Summer Palace and the Temple of Heaven are all great examples of that wealth. In the last 100 years the city has gone through a massive urbanization and became big as the entire State of Israel, with a population of more than 20 million people.

Or by its other name the "Imperial Palace", was the nerve center of the Chinese government since the beginning of the Ming Dynasty in the 15th century to the fall of the Qing Dynasty in 1912. The area served as the residence of the imperial family and only they and the highly ranked officials were allowed to enter to the premises. The Forbidden City also marks the first ring of Beijing (out of 7, some might say 8 rings in total) and is located in the center of the city. When you visit Beijing, you must visit the Forbidden City.
